My ideas on art can be summarised in six propositions.
- Painting as a purely individual approach
For a long time, I thought that art was an instinctive, personal gesture and an intuitive way to better know one's inner self. A selfish approach that should not take into account others, their feelings, their emotions.
Art being a kind of therapy where the mind no longer thinks but projects an emotion buried deep within oneself. Whether the work is pleasing or not was irrelevant; art was above all an individual approach. I still think that, at least partially.
- Painting as an expression of our time, a source of reflection, and a vector of change
Over time, experience, and circumstances, my ideas have evolved. The belief that art is a purely individual act has given way to a greater desire for sharing.
Sharing a vision and an interpretation of the world around us, but also sharing an emotion, beauty, and a human feeling. The world and our civilization are changing rapidly. We are undoubtedly at the dawn of a major turning point.
Every civilization manifests itself in its monuments and works: in sculpture, music, literature, architecture, poetry, and of course, painting. It has therefore become important to apply one's art to the realities of the era in which we live.
Our time is at the heart of an unprecedented technological revolution. Artificial intelligence and other technologies are set to rapidly transform our daily lives, and much more. Our civilization is turning towards a new world. A new art must naturally accompany this major transformation.
Faced with these changes, I believe it is crucial to contribute to a reflection on the evolution of our society; not by answering questions, but by provoking thought and creating a positive emotion and sentiment.
The heart-stirring moment exists in art. The attraction of beauty and artistic excellence has always fascinated. But how can we not try to use it also to prepare the world for this civilizational transformation? I therefore see art as an important expression of our time and a source of reflection on our future and its possible changes. Art and painting have always had this function, and undoubtedly even more now.
- The four criteria of art
The four criteria of art include:
- Beauty
- Emotion
- Message
- Uniqueness
- Painting accompanies digital transformation – it does not combat it
Digital transformation is now at the heart of our lives.
Very soon, our currencies will be digital, our brains will be equipped with chips that enhance our faculties, our personal and administrative histories will be recorded in databases that we will no longer control, and our world will gradually shift towards a fully digital world.
This transformation is frightening because its consequences on our daily lives are and will be multiple and significant. Should we ignore or fear it? I don't think so. It can constitute a unique opportunity. But it needs to be shaped in our image, to our needs and desires.
Art and especially painting have an important role in this process. Artificial intelligence is already widely used in all forms of art, and painting is no exception. We need to accompany this movement. Art thus becomes an important vector of this transformation – it must help us evolve: by asking the right questions and providing possible answers.
The primary and growing role of philosophy in the media is a sign of this existing gap. Art and painting must take over. My stance is that digital art is the new art. It is often misunderstood. Often, it is considered a substitute for the artist – in cases where the artist uses artificial intelligence to their advantage. I believe this debate should not take place.
If we think about it, it doesn't matter how art works are created. What really matters is the result. The criteria of beauty, emotion, message, uniqueness remain the same. And any work, digital or not, should therefore be judged by these same criteria.
- My vision of art: digital, interactive, continuous, and evolving with its environment
Everyone will have their own definition of art and painting. It is therefore important to present my vision. The new art – digital art – consists of an art that has a physical, digital, and interactive representation:
- A physical representation in its simplest form; it is the printing of a digital painting on a high-quality artistic medium to better preserve the sensation of beauty and emotion.
- A digital representation: it is a digital painting projected on a screen, an iPad, a mobile phone, a computer, etc.
- An interactive representation that evolves with time and the environment: the theme or painting is defined by the artist and the buyer of the work. The artistic representation of this theme will evolve according to the environment (people's moods, weather, news, etc.). If the theme is a face, this face evolves: moving from joy to sadness, melancholy, deliverance, etc. This requires the implementation of advanced technology at the service of the artist: to interpret these environmental changes and adapt the graphic representation accordingly.
- Towards a new economic model of painting – accessible to the greatest number
Art must be accessible to all, unique and personal to the buyer, easily viewable and installable, and purchasable on demand.
- Accessible to all: through a digital platform where the choice of art is vast and diverse.
- Unique and personal to the buyer: the buyer can define the key criteria of the artistic work: the style, the messages of the work, the colors, and any other appropriate criteria.
- Easily viewable and installable: art can have a physical representation but also a digital representation through screens specifically set to enhance the quality of the work.
- Purchasable on demand: the buyer of the art can rent a work on screen without having to buy a work permanently. At the end of the leasing period, the buyer can become the owner of the physical work.
Conclusion
With a bit of luck, art will no longer be solely dedicated to aesthetes, connoisseurs, and those who can afford it; but to everyone and for everyone... with the desire to help us better understand the major transformations we are facing... and convey unique emotions that touch our souls and the deepest parts of us.
